HISTORY:
SEVENTEEN YEARS OLD
The sound of glass breaking had Caspian out of bed on his feet, carrying the baseball bat down the hallway and towards his sister's room. His heart was pounding, his palms sweaty on the handle of the baseball bat. Coming up the other side of the hallway was his parents, his dad with his handgun and his mother with the phone. Then there was the scream and Cas was moving before his brain kicked in. He burst through his sister's bedroom door and stood gazing in terror. Standing, drenched in moonlight, was a figure only seen on TV. Dark wings outstretched, chest like chiseled marble and eyes as dark and forbidding as the gates of Hell, stood a demon. His size alone seemed to fill the room. Cas knew plenty about the Angels and Demons. After all, they've been all over the news. However, everything he knew about them, didn't include their interest in humans. As far as anyone knew, they saw humans as nothing more than nuisances, Why the Hell was this freak standing in his sister's bedroom?
"Cas! Help me!" And that's when he spotted it. On the bed, pinning his sister down, was a smaller demon, dark, ethereal fog escaping it's mouth and slowly wrapping around her body. This was training. The larger demon was giving the younger one the feel of killing a human. Cas grit his teeth and raised his bat, ready to strike at the demon on his sister when his father moved first, he shoved his wife out of the way and raised the gun, sending bullet after bullet into the younger demon but it didn't seemed fazed. It all happened so fast. The larger demon shifted, a large bear appearing in the middle of the room where he'd been standing moments before and bellowed, slamming a giant clawed paw down on top of Cas's dad, blood splashing across his face. His mother screamed and reached for her husband's gun but before she got close enough, was viciously thrown backwards against the wall with a sickening sound. She collapsed onto the floor and didn't move. Cas was shaking, the baseball bat dropping from his hands as his legs gave out. It caught the bear's attention and he swung his head around, piercing him with eyes that looked like death. The bear approached him, breathing out so hot breath washed over his face. From the bed, his sister gave another muffled scream before the bear stood on it's hind legs, shifted back and smirked at him. He didn't remember anything after that.TWENTY-ONE YEARS OLDAfter the incident, Caspian was forced to go and live with his mother's sister, a woman he hardly knew in upper New York state. Doctor's, insisting he was suffering from post traumatic stress, sent him to see specialists only to rile him up to the point of violent anger. He wasn't suffering from PTSD, he wanted to burn the fucker that killed his family. His grades dropped, fell in with a bad crowd and ended up getting arrested several times. He'd gone from the star basketball player at school to dropping out and becoming a delinquent. At eighteen, he joined the military, hoping that he could receive the training he would need to exact his revenge on the Demons. He joined the Marines and quickly rose in rank but it was his violent, angry outbursts that eventually had him thrown out on dishonorable discharge. Only managing to fuel his anger more, Caspian, once more, fell down a bad slope and, it wasn't until he was bailed out of jail for the fifth time a month after his twenty first birthday, that his life changed forever.---"Mr. Whittaker, a moment of your time, please?"
Caspian sighed angrily and stopped on the steps of the police station, his jacket under one arm and his phone in the other. "What? I've already told the other reporters that it was Demons that killed my family! I didn't kill them!"
The woman that approached him had Caspian lifting a brow in surprise. She wasn't much older than himself and clearly humored by something. "I don't care about what happened in your past. I only care about your need for revenge. I think I can help you."
Caspian felt his heart race. "Go on."
She handed him a business card. "Ever hear of the Hunter Project? We're a Government funded group focused on... bringing down the Angels and Demons. I'm looking for someone like you."
Caspian stared at the card skeptically. "How do I know this is legit?"
She winked at him and started down the steps past him. "You won't know without finding out for yourself, right?" She stopped and turned around to look at him once more. "I promise, you won't regret it."BONDING WITH THE DRUGSCaspian yelled out and slammed his fist into the floor, his gut feeling like it was on fire. He felt the rolling of his stomach and didn't stop the flow of vomit from between his lips as another wave of pain crashed through his body, making it feel like his muscles were being ripped to shreds all at once. "i-I can't do this!" He gasped, his arms giving out and leaving him laying in his own vomit.
Around him, heels snapping out a careful tune on the linoleum floor. "You agreed to come here. No one forced you. You knew the consequences before being administered. This should come to no surprise for you, Caspian."
She had sounded so sweet in front of the police station, flirty even but here, in the Hunter Project, she was cold and decisive. Thalia Somerville certainly gained her position for all the right reasons. As his commanding officer, he had no choice but to follow her orders. Even if that meant dealing with the pain of the Hunter Drugs. "It gets easier once your body bonds with the drugs. You showed remarkable promise during the trials. I know your body can handle them."
He screamed again as it felt like someone took a scalpel and began to cut out all his muscles and bones. He thrashed violently, even passing out a few times as his body burned alive. Finally, after what felt like days, he felt the pain turn into numbness and he felt a strange lifting sensation that had his body buzzing with adrenaline. He slowly crawled to his knees and nearly gasped in surprise. His vision had changed. He could see colors and hues he'd never been able to see before, could even see perfectly among the shadows of the room. Beside him, Thalia knelt down, the familiar smirk on her face. "Open door one!" She said to someone out of his lone of vision.
A door in front of him opened and someone was pushed through. When the door closed, they struggled to open it back up but the door was locked. Caspian zeroed in on the newcomer and felt fire in his blood stream. It was the younger demon who had killed his sister. He'd know that face anywhere. Without even thinking, Caspian was on his feet, body buzzing with apprehension. He was handed a sword and he grabbed it without thinking and began to walk towards the demon who, with Caspian's heightened eyesight, could see was quickly drawing shadows around him as if to protect himself. But Caspian was determined and he swung his arm before the demon had a change to react, severing the creature's head from his shoulders. The body slumped to the ground and blood seeped beneath Caspian's bare feet. He was breathing heavily but he felt, amazing. He couldn't help the smile that spread across his face.
Behind him, he heard a slow clapping. "Welcome to the Hunter Project, Mr. Whittaker."
