Adelina messed with her hat as she stopped before the double glass doors of Starbucks. Her blue eyes blinked as she thought over her time with Gabriel and sighed at herself. She reached out to open one of the doors. Her small hands pulled it open. Her heart did a soft staccato in her chest as she took in the indoor setting of the place. It was moderately busy in the mid afternoon. A lot of the tables, chairs and armchairs are taken up by people who are talking to each other or on their laptops. She smiled as she walked in her leather sandals the softly pattered on the hard tile floor. She took a step over to the person behind the counter and ordered a frappe. She handed over the gold card that shows that she is willing to buy expensive drinks multiple times in her past. The young woman then moved and looked around for a seat. She then found a table near the back of the building and sat down against the window. Her blue eyes peered outside before looking around as people grabbed the last table open. Her eyes then stared at the empty chair across from her and hoped that one day Gabe will take it as her boyfriend. Adelina sighed and looked away and rested her small hands on the table. Her eyes traveled around as she waited for her drink to be done. Her lips then slowly lifted into a content smile as she waited there for her drink.

It was a chai latte, low-fat. How hard could that be? It wasn't like he ever deviated in his order. But somewhere along the way things had fallen apart. And well the disgruntled appearance of the man who wasn't just upset about the coffee. No he wasn't the sort of person to blow up over just a cup of coffee. The loss of a deal however, put him in a rather sour mood.
To come all the way out here, to L.A, and to lose a 3.6 million dollar contract like that. There would he HELL to pay when he got back home to New York, oh someone would be taking the fall for this and it certainly wasn't going to be him. It never was. He was rather clever like that.
It was almost enough to drive a man to drink and well, drinking he was. Expensive and equally terrible coffee from one of the most pretentious chains in this country. He thought selling bottled water was bad, but bean juice was just the icing on top of the cake.
And to top it all off he had to play the waiting game, he had to wait for the phone call to tell him what he already knew. He tapped the screen of the iphone before finally the latte was delivered, the name of 'Halifax' scrawled hastily across the side of the cup before looking around. Really? No more chairs how long did people take to drink their coffee? His eyes went skimming across the occupied chairs before spotting the last remaining seat in the back his eyes then settling on the woman with a frappe.
Well it wasn't the worst idea he'd ever had. He slowly moved back to where she was.
"This is probably weird but is this seat taken?" he asked holding the drink in one hand, the leather case of his iphone in the other gesturing to the chair. He'd made a terrible decision to come inside, should have just gone through the drive-thru.
See the money wanna stay, for your meal Get another piece of pie, for your wife Everybody wanna know, how it feel Everybody wanna see, what it's like

Adelina looked up from her newly made frappe and smiled at the gentleman. "Sure. You can take the spot." She nodded before taking a sip of her drink. Her blue eyes blinked as she leaned into her seat and stared out the door. Her hands then laid on the table top before looking at the stranger. "It is a nice day outside. It is not too warm nor too cold." She whispered and smiled a little. She then sighed and looked around as some people bustled in and out of Starbucks. "It is sad that not many people think of taking a pause in their day and enjoy the nice weather." She said mostly to herself as she took another sip of frappe. Her blond curls rested against her shoulders as she sat there watching the outdoor life. Cars zoomed by, and people stomped by. Some are hurried while others are strolling. It is interesting to see the difference in people who are too busy or when they can just enjoy the day. The society of the day is really bustling and mostly worried about time. Her eyes then looked over to the man. "How are you today, sir?" She asked politely.

We all deserve the finer things, in this life.
Carter Halifax Of all the things Carter had encountered in this world he was certain that small-talk was some sort of way mortals had to earn their penance. But he sat down all the same setting his phone on the table swiping it to make sure the email hadn't come in before looking up at her. She'd commented about the weather and he fiddled with his wrist watch for a moment pushing up his sleeves.
To him, the weather was quite honestly hot. Though in comparison the English weather he was used to, at least the sun was out. This was really more of an American thing, all that crap about 'having a nice day' when the sky normally looked like an over worn wool sweater. He looked out the front window. “It's a bit too hot for me honestly, English weather is always a bit tepid.” He took another sip of the latte almost regretting not getting something a bit colder. California was the worst.
"Some people just don't have the time, this country isn't really built on leisure." One of the things he'd rather liked about this place. People never really stopped for anything in the larger cities.
"I mean whose to say they're not enjoying it?" They were at least outside after all, unlike Carter who probably could have gotten 'moon burn' if there was such a thing.
"Oh, I'm fine, I mean I've been better but I'm fine." There was some truth to that. Though once this deal went through he would be in a better mood. They weren't going to back out over a little thing like that, it was all just a snafu, a snag.
"And how are you?" It was really just a matter of hospitality that he was keeping this up.

Adelina sat there as she looked at the man who decided to join her for a while. She heard his comment on the weather and nodded. "I agree. It is a bit warm, but it should cool down in he next few days. That is what the news channel people say." Addie shrugged and sipped on her cool drink. Her blue eyes never straying from her company that she has at the moment. Her hands lightly gripped her cup as she leaned into the seat. "Still, the news people are not always good at predicting the weather. They can be right or wrong." She added and shrugged off her thoughts. She heard his next input and nodded. "It is sad, but very true. The world cannot run on people who take too long, at times." She smiled lightly and took a draw of her frappe. Her blond hair shined in the afternoon sun as she stayed seated. She heard his question and nodded to the people bustling around. "They are definitely not enjoying it. Look at their straight and determined faces. No expression at all. Also, look at the casual looking people who are walking. They are smiling and looking around." She pointed out the differences and smiled. "I rather take my time instead of having one thing planned right after the other. I don't like rushing much, while others do." She said as she sighed and shrugged. "Life is to be treasured and not rushed, I think." Addie added as she gazed at the man. "We used to only have the house or farm to take care of two generations ago. Now, we have the world on our shoulders." She said to compare the lifestyles from the past to the present. She heard his words and nodded her head. "That is good." The woman said politely. She then heard his question. "I am fine. Just enjoying the day as it is between schedules as a photographer." She smiled and looked around her again before looking back at the man. "I am Adelina. People call me Addie." She said, since she might as well introduce herself to him.

He laughed a bit, these people and their weather stations. "You know that has to be the best job in the universe, you get paid and you don't even have to be right, all the perks of politics and none of the setbacks." Which was true, half the time they weren't even right.
"The faster they get done now the sooner they can move on to something else, all just a matter of perspective really." he said crossing one leg over the other, the expensive leather shoes finally rising from above the table. Penny pincher he was but that didn't mean he wasn't about to live like a degenerate. All the things this world had to offer and he was the one with the key.
"Well no I mean Rome wasn't built in a day." He'd always hated the expression, he'd seen Rome, nothing at all like his beloved Florence. Sometimes he missed that sort of thing, the art, the debauchery. The closest thing now was well, Copenhagen and even then he didn't care much for Denmark. The entire country could have fallen into the ocean for all he cared it could be the next Atlantis.
Ha, if only he had said that to Midas...treasured life.
"I'd rather live here than in the past. Indoor plumbing and electric lights, blessings in disguise if I ever saw them." Not to mention the treachery of Thomas Eddison was one of his greatest success stories. But perhaps that would be for another time.
If there was one thing Carter loved more than anything else, it was artists. Call it some sort of side effect of sharing his think pan with a millennial old creature, maybe that's where the eclectic taste had come from. "Oh you're a photographer, do you do studio work or just on location?" His knowledge on the subject was vast, as it was for most things in the art world. That was where the money was, making other people buy someone else's pretentious thoughts and ideas was a genius market.
"Carter, Carter Halifax...I'm an Auctioneer. In town closing a sale actually." he said but truthfully that wasn't even close to half of what he did. And he shot another look at his phone thinking about the sale had reminded him. There was still nothing.

Adelina heard his words and nodded. "Still, I am not good in front of a camera. I will be stammering a lot of the time. I am better behind one, though." She said politely to the handsome man who accompanied her for her break at Starbucks. Her blue eyes gazed at him in a calm way. She heard his next words and shrugged. "You are right, but it is hard with something planned right after the other." Addie added and leaned into her chair. Her blue eyes watched as he set his feet on the table and sipped on her frappe. Her eyes blinked over the dome lid of her drink and smiled lightly. Her hands then set the drink down at her side of the table as she listened to the man speak. She nodded about the Rome comment before hearing him speak about the present time. "I agree. It is nice to live at a place were you don't need your own land or animals to live on." She whispered and nodded her hair which made her blond hair bounce around her lean and small shoulders. Still, she wished to have more height in her form, but she can't make herself grow. Her blue eyes blinked as she shrugged off her thoughts and turned her interest back on the man sitting across of her. "I am a photographer, yes. I private one. I do portraits and scenic photos. I even volunteer at local events or charities to help and take pictures at them. I give them copies for them to give to the people are taking part of it for memories." She said politely since she loves her work a lot. Her eyes looked around the place and outside before turning back to Carter. "It is a pleasure to meet you, Carter." She said politely. "So, what sort of auctions do you do? Houses? artifacts? Paintings?" Addie asked politely as she watched him stare at the phone. "You don't need to tell me. I am just wondering." She whispered politely.

Carter listened pushing the side button on his phone to dim the screen for a moment.
" Ah, agreed..." If there was one thing he hated, it was being captured on film, it would have made it easier to find him at the end of the day. And the Angels were always watching for that sort of thing. It was risky enough doing what he did without cameras getting into the mix.
Ah there was always something wasn't there? Of course most Charity events had their gimmicks, he didn't really mind them all that much especially when it made things interesting. Most of the time anymore, people didn't do that sort of thing to be charitable. They did it for publicity. But even then he still ha to swallow the idea, it was such a waste of time. "That is awfully kind of you, donating your time like that."
If there was one thing he knew how to do well it was lie without any remorse.
He smiled taking another sip of his drink. “Oh it's no trouble at all. I mean it's not like it's a secret.” He laughed reaching into the pocket of the navy suit jacket pulling out the small tin and removing the black card. He always carried these things, the cheap infective way to plant ideas, while maintaining his discretion. Of course there were things he couldn't have told her about, and really only a certain kind of people would be interested in that part of his business.
“A lot of it is high end, we got this lovely walnut vanity just the other day from Liverpool. I've sold property, cars, and collectables. Anything that's hard to find really.” he began finally taking his fingers off the card he'd slid over to her. The purple flower centered on the black glossy paper with the word 'Wisteria' across the top. “I've sold vintage cars, watches, you name it I've probably touched it at one time or another.” Clearly he was passionate about the subject of his beloved warehouse.
“I'm not sure how familiar you are with James Bond...the car that went underwater. The Wet Nellie...I got to test drive it before it sold at auction.” He seemed rather proud of the fact, after all it wasn't every day that someone got to pretend to be James Bond.
"Sorry there was a point to this I get carried away sometimes." he admitted.
