Personality
Loki isn't called a demon for no reason. With unknown origins and an unknown age, Loki comes off as quite mysterious. The way he acts, the way he talks, differs from anyone else. He's a man of vast intelligence and it shows in the way he says things and the way he does things. But there is one single thing about his personality that clearly stands out from others; there's a lack of humanity. Everything he says and does is all an act, perfected by a genius mind that had millennia to study human behavior. But there are obvious subtle changes that make him stand out from others, for instance, his definition of funny and others vastly differ. He finds the pain and terror of others all in good humor while something truly funny might irritate him. Another obvious discrepancy is his lack of caring about others. Unless it benefits him, he'll leave you to your own problems without a wink. To lovers, he's both cold and sexy. He can put on an irresistible show but he really cares nothing for pleasures of the heart of body. His definition of having a good time is at the expense of others. He finds entertainment in using others for his personal gains and using fear and pain as a means to keep them dependent. He doesn't care for factions or alliances. He follows himself and will only join with you if he's able to get something out of it himself, whether you're aware of it or not. But if there's one thing he's adamant about, it's keeping himself a secret. Only those in his syndicate know of him but even then, they don't know anything about him, his species, his past, nothing. For a being who had lived for millenia and had nothing else to really live for, he kept himself closed off from others, which created the mysteriousness about him. No body even knows about his twin brother. If there is one faction alive today that he hates more, it's the Magi. Too damn nosy for their own good.
History
Only Ren and Loki know of their pasts, know of their humbled beginnings. The rumors that their lives began at the dawn of human civilization about hits the nail on the head. The truth is, demons had lived long before human beings, had developed and taught each other long before humans could form words. In fact, Ren and Loki's beginnings start when the human bible started. Lilith was Adam's first wife, a woman who had craved dominion over her partner. But she had been too much for Adam. He cast her aside for the demure and innocent Eve. Furious, Lilith found Asmodeus, a demon like herself, who only cared for destruction of man kind who they'd been forced to live the rest of their existence with. At the same time Cain and Abel were born, Ren and Loki were, each boy containing the infamous magik that had condemned the demons in the first place; Loki Shadowkinesis, the ability to manipulate shadows and Ren, Elemental Fire. The twins weren't okay with sitting back and watching humans make mistake after mistake. Instead, they wanted to help them with their misfortunes. One of the most notable achievments of the twins was Sodom and Gomorrah, though their names were never mentioned. If you were to ever ask Loki about that particular time, he'd smirk at you and tell you things may have gotten a little out of hand.
Nevertheless, it didn't stop the twins. Through out history, there are periods that are passed down from generation to generation, stories that are meant to warn the future of mankind's mistakes. Ninety percent of these mishaps were caused by one of the twins. It was so easy to change their names, assume a persona and easily drive themselves into any situation that was worthy enough for them to screw up. It wasn't until religion became a much greater cause in human lives that things between the twins began to change. Long ago, when the Goddess had created them, she had called them all Angels, beings designed in her image to please her. But it had been the Goddess's children, the demi-Gods, who had snaked their way into the minds of some of the angels and taught them magik, turning brother against brother. The Goddess, heartbroken that her greatest creations were killing each other off because of her children's petty jealousies, sentenced the Demi-Gods to the Other Plain where they would live out their immortality. But the damage was already done. Even without the Demi-God's influence, Angels fought other Angels who had no powers. The Goddess, hoping to restore balance, blessed the Angels without Magik with divine weapons, able to strip another Angel of their Magik forever, returning them to their original state. But because the fighting had gotten out of control, she sent her creations to a Plain called 'Earth' where beings called humans were just beginning to live. Through their deeds, the Angels with Magik were called 'Demons' by the humans they came into contact with and eventually, the name stuck. Of course, humans being the simple minded creatures they were, began to bring the Angels and Demons into stories of their own religions, allying them with a being named God and a being named Lucifer. It was because of these stories, that humans began to attack demons, seeing them as evil spirits who could steal souls and corrupt minds. It was during the Holy Wars in the Middle East, where Ren and Loki's paths took a drastic turn. While Loki kept to his demon nature, rising in his abilities, Ren found he had a natural skill in wielding divine weapons. He joined the side of the Angels and eventually, came face to face with Loki in battle.
Loki and Ren had never hated each other. In fact, as identical twins, they care for each other in a way not many could ever understand. They had come together in battle, at first, as opponents only, neither inflicting any damage. But it wasn't until Ren drew first blood did Loki realize that Ren was no longer the brother he could count on. Instead, Ren had devoted his life to killing Loki. Even worse, Loki found out Ren had been secretly on the Angels side for centuries. They had even designed him a divine weapon that enabled him to use it without it purging him of his Magik. Loki did the only thing he felt he could do at the time; he ran. He fled from his twin, leaving him far behind as he traveled new worlds, attempting to keep himself one step ahead. He tells no one of his brother in fear Ren would be able to find him. He keeps the knowledge closely guarded, just as closely as he does his past.
Fortunately for Loki, the story of Angels and Demons didn't end in the Holy Wars. In American in the late eighteen hundreds, he was able to once more, make a name for himself. He quickly rose in power, easily manipulating, torturing and terrifying anyone who came near him. As the twentieth century rolled around, Loki had successfully created an Empire for himself and had even begun to search for his brother, after all this time...
CHILDHOOD
"Humans are worthless, feeble minded creatures that run purely on the thoughts and feelings of those around them. They'd just as soon throw you under the avalanche to save themselves. That is why we destroy them. We've been exiled to this useless world and it's our duty to take it from these pathetic humans and make it our own world. We are above humans, they should be worshiping us! And instead, we hide who we are from them! Disgraceful! Use humans as your playthings, as your entertainment. Remember, Loki. The only person in this world you can trust is yourself and your brother. Keep yourself closed off from others and good things will happen for you."
Since he was a child, he and his brother were raised by their mother. She taught them everything they needed to know; self defense and destruction. Not once, had she enveloped her twins in her arms as a mother would and Loki came to appreciate such sentiments. Love was a weakness, family was a weakness. If he planned to survive in this world and rid the world of humans, he needed to stay strong and that meant hiding his true self away from the rest of the world. There were times, when he and Ren had been very young, they'd shared each other's vulnerability but as time wore on, their hearts' closed off and they became to separate. Loki assumed it was what had torn his brother away from the path of destruction and joined the Angels in his quest to kill him.
The wound wouldn't stop bleeding and Loki couldn't hold back the tears that leaked from his eyes, his lower lip trembling as he bit back a sob. His wing was splattered with blood from the hole in his side and he was stricken by the sheet horror of the sight. From the cave they'd crawled into, lightening lit the sky, followed by the deep rumble of thunder. Before him, outlined by the flames of the fire he'd created, Ren was heating up a piece of metal, brow furrowed as he concentrated on his work. Loki let out a quick sob and Ren flashed him a glare. "Shut up, big baby! If mother saw you now, she'd whip you an inch from your life! It's your own stupid fault the lion attacked you! Didn't I tell you to leave it the fuck alone?" He stood from the fire, the piece of metal looking like a magikal weapon in Ren's hand as the tip burned bright red. Loki whimpered, backing up till his back hit the cave wall. "Ar-are you going to tell Mother?" he asked, eyes never leaving the white hot end of the metal.
Ren continued to glare at him. Even for being a child, outlined by the fire with the flash of lightening in the background, Ren truly looked terrifying. He grabbed Loki's wrist and yanked him to the side as he touched the hot tip against Loki's skin, a sizzle echoing in the room as the smell of burnt skin radiated. Loki let out a feral scream of pain.
A BROTHER'S TREASON
He stumbled, hitting the wall and leaving a streak of red. The floor swayed and the darkness at the corners of his eyes was slowly taking over. He wouldn't be able to stay up right much longer. He knew she was here. He could always find her if he needed her. He struggled down the long hallway and finally, feel against the door at the end of the hall. There was only a few seconds before the door was thrown open and he found himself falling to the carpeted floor, pain lacing across his chest. "What the- Loki!" The sheer concern in her voice made his heart sputter. She did care. Maybe he had a chance at survival after all. He was being turned over, a fuzzy face looking down into his. "Who did this to you?!"
"I'm sorry, mother..." he whispered. "I've failed you..." A clear picture of Ren raising the scythe above him crossed his mind and he shivered at the look on Ren's face. Ren had completely lost himself in his hatred of him. There was nothing left in those eyes that suggested he felt a brotherly bond with him. Laying here on his mother's floor, bleeding out, Loki finally came to understand Ren's desire to kill him. This was no longer a game between them. Reassured that Lilith would take care of him, Loki succumbed to the darkness.
PRESENT DAY
In his line of business, nothing was easy. At least, for the humans working beneath him. To Loki, the torment of humans was nothing new to him. He spent his every waking hour bringing a Hell on Earth to humans. If he and his brethren were to be condemned to this lowly world with these weak humans, he was going to make sure he made his time here fun. And by fun, he meant anything that put a smile on his face. And human suffering took the cake. At first, he had started in the arm's dealing; selling terror weapons to enemies and watching them try and kill each other. It was all an amusing game, like playing a real life video game. His lack of humanity granted him the ability to not care who he was selling to or the outcome of selling to someone would be. It just made things a lot more interesting. Besides, it was good for business. The less he invested his interest in his clients, the happier they were. Being nosy only pushed clients away. But one day, during a deal, a client had asked if his human assistant, a young girl no older than twenty five, was for sale. The client had probably meant the idea as a joke but Loki found himself fascinated with the idea of selling a human being to another human being. Especially when the human being was a young girl who put all her fight into not being sold. It was then he found his second job; human trafficking. From time to time, he took money offered to him to help smuggle people over borders but his most profit came from selling young girls to crime bosses for sex slaves, drug dealers or as wives to high ranking princes. He supposed it was the human suffering that intrigued him the most. It was probably also the main reason he kept the woman as his pet, much to her own tantrums. It was because of these "tantrums" he kept her around. He enjoyed controlling every aspect of her life.
So far, he'd kept to his promise, of keeping her close by. Where ever he was, she went with him. But he wasn't giving her the satisfaction of staying in the shadows. No, when he went anywhere, he made her dress up and loop her arm through his as they walked. Vegas was home to the ritzy and the best way he'd found to blend in was by showing off his own wealth and dragged her with him. One, because she was kept well in sight and two, she was the only one who didn't cower in fear around him. Her spitfire was well appreciated. It promised her that he wouldn't grow bored of her and throw her away. Tonight was just one of those grand events he was going to be attending but instead of a public's eye view, he was going behind the curtain, into his own black world. Nonetheless, he had a dress sent up to her room and her own personal hairdresser. Whether she decided to wear it or not, he had her meet him at seven in the hotel lobby before they got into a limo and pulled up in front of one of many casinos on the Strip. Up front, it was just that, a casino but Loki had his business established behind the scenes of the casino and their small group was granted access into a private elevator and taken to the higher floors. It was there, he introduced her to his main office. It wasn't an office you'd think when you picture an "office" but it was where Loki conducted most of his business. There were plenty of conference rooms and even one room with a raised dias and one sided windows surrounding the room where clients could "bid" on the girls Loki produced. Tonight, however, his business was strictly Arms. Of course, he kept no actual "merchandise" within the casino itself but on offsite locations but that didn't mean he didn't have a list of them all sitting around.
He swung open a pair of double doors and walked into a rather spacious "office" complete with the entire view of the main Strip. Different colored lights reflected on every surface from the casinos and hotels that surrounded the building and a merry fire flickered in the fireplace on the far wall. It was a rather contemporary office complete with nude statues and random abstract paintings. Loki hated the boringness of this office so much, he tended to spend as less time in it as he could. He clapped his hands and the lights flickered on and screens built into the windows, flickered closed, closing out the Strip from the office. "Sit." he told her, the office doors closing behind them. "And don't touch anything." Tonight he looked rather dashing in a suit and it was quite possible to see him as nothing more than a human the way he laughed along with the staff and guests and even partook of the free wine and appetizers but looks could always be deceiving. All he needed to do was move his arm a certain way and shadows would be available at his every beck and call. Unless you were trained to see them, they were certainly hard to see hiding in the folds of his suit or following behind him.
