HISTORY:
Freya was born on a muggy, stormy night under a large Oak tree to two angels on the run. The wind blew fiercely and because of the seasonal transition into Fall, fallen leaves were used as bedding for the birthing woman. A half moon hung high in the sky but could barely be used as lighting through the thick clouds and unforgiving rain storm. Only her parents know how they managed to deliver a healthy baby girl through such chaos and bad luck, and unfortunately would also take their identities as well as their fates with them as they left the crying babe in front of an old spinsters shack close to the Oak tree, with the hopes of giving Freya her best chance.
Not knowing where she came from, her adoptive mother was quite curious, and concerned, after the discovery of, what her mother referred to as, the Mark of God, in the form of wings on her back. The permanent tattoo appeared painless to the child and didn't seem to affect her ability to grow as other children did, but the symbol the tattoo represented, the superstitious woman didn't know if Freya was to be her blessing or her curse.
Nonetheless, Freya grew up fairly normal, even under the protection of the town spinster and because of it became an outcast just by association alone. She never had any true friends and because of her mother never had a chance at love either. Until, one day at the age of 13, Freya could no longer sit and abide by her mothers rules. At the crack of dawn she set out for the village on the other side of the woods, and in doing so would get more than she bargained for.
A boy of 14 or 15 was herding his sheep towards the river bank to allow his flock to drink from its cool, refreshing waters. Freya was content with watching from the distance high above the ground in one of the trees thick with colors of reds and golds, confident its canopy gave her enough cover to remain hidden. As comfortable high in the trees as she was, having spent her entire life in the woods alone, she had never been able to deal with the residents that often visited her while sitting on its branches. A spider the size of her hand crawled up her leg from a neighboring branch, unaware it wasn't a natural limb of the tree, and in doing so scared Freya so much, she lost her balance and fell.
Unknowingly, one of the sheep had wandered off from its flock and was grazing on a patch of grass beneath the tree Freya was sitting in. As she greeted the ground with a thud, it was enough to scare the sheep from the edge of the woods and back to its herd. Concerned what his sheep was running from, the boy investigated the area he saw the sheep fly from, and instead of finding another wild, predatory animal as he had guessed, he found an angel with a broken ankle.
Unlike the other village children, the Shepard boy didn't run from her or even throw rocks at her as they often did with her mother, but instead helped her up and guided her to his family home at the edge of the valley. His mother had died recently from a sickness that ravaged Ireland while his father was still in town gathering supplies for the week when Freya and the boy arrived at his house. His kindness was foreign to her and there were many times she tried to convince herself he was just pretending to be nice, but as the hours went by, she began to feel as if she truly did deserve to have the friend she always wanted. When his father returned home to find the village freak in his house, the boy was quick to defend Freya but unwilling to get the boy into any serious trouble, quickly left and never returned.
The two still met in secret, however. Meeting at the same tree she fell from. This would go on for a year before the boy was forced into an arranged marriage and then out of the village and into the city near by. Once again, Freya was alone with her thoughts and her mother, and once again Freya fell into a deep depression that stayed with her until her mothers death and the ransacking of her home a year later.
At the time, Scotland was being ravaged by foreign invaders, pillaging and killing any village that stood in their path, and Freya's was no exception. Like many young girls at the time Freya was sold into slavery and forced to the side of a demon in the guise of a soldier.
In the beginning, like any enslaved person, Freya tried to run, unsuccessfully of course. Her many failed attempts resulted in bruises and broken bones. Eventually, her attempts stopped and so did the punishments. Even though she still sneered as she washed his clothes and muttered curses under her breath while making the evening dinner, she came to understand the only way to survive the horrors that spread through out her war stricken land was to stick by his side and hope she was of too much value to him for anyone much worse to take his place.
Through out the centuries Freya's relationship with Nykolae was unstable. Though he taught her how to read and write, how to fight, and most importantly how to fly, it wasn't until the 18th century that Freya believed he actually cared about her as more than his personal slave. In order to keep up with appearances and to remain under the radar, they pretended to be happily married couple, and every few years held a ceremony, mostly for the free gifts. Freya's devotion would be put to the true test when an attempt on Nykolae's life is made at the hands of another angel. Her ability to defend him was as unexpected as the attack itself, but behind the scenes the entire thing was a rouse that resulted in murder. Unknowingly to Freya, it was a trick planned by Nykoale to corrupt her into a demon, and though it didn't work in the way he planned, it helped push her deeper into his grip that would last for another century and a half.
In the early 20th century, the couple undertook several persona's, including the infamous Bonnie and Clyde, as well as several pregnancies that came and went, all ending in miscarriages and premature births. Nearing the early 70's the couples relationship began to slip back into the state of master and slave, forcing Freya to spend less and less time with him in an attempt to save her ongoing pregnancy. For the first time in her life she had hopes this one would survive as she reached her third trimester, the furthest shes gone. Those hopes remained even after she was kidnapped by a group of humans for experimental reasons for an organization later to be called the Hunters Program. Her hopes would be crushed after the delivery of her baby and the apparent 'death' of the newborn shortly after.
Stricken with grief, and unknowingly corrupted by the hybrid child, Freya spent 10 years in captivity before escaping. With no money, no clothes, and no idea if anyone was looking for her, Freya went into hiding. It wasn't until 5 years later that she discovered her new powers and began to experiment with them. Her abilities gave her a boost in confidence and after a few years of practice has taken it upon herself to hunt down every last hunter and make them suffer as she did in the cold, dark basement of the Hunters Research Facility.
